The Awakening, Pakistan (TAP) is a non-profit, non-govt. , voluntary organisation created to channelize the energy of the youth towards constructing and ensuring a brighter future of our society. For too long have we critisized our present situation and held responsible those who are the least capable. For too long have we watched our own kin suffer, being tortured and killed around us but rarely have we stepped in the situation and ACTED to help and save humanity from the socio-politico-economic ills. The time has come for us, the youth, to stand up and take matters in our own hands acting in a positive manner. TAP is a quest to accumulate the energy of the society and regulate it through different projects so that it warms the society rather than burns it.

HOW?

TAP members are responsible for selecting a vision theme which is to be followed for 3 months, the issues may vary but the vision remains the same. The theme selected for February 2010 to April 2010 is  ”Social Awakening” and the projects to be pursued in this time-frame are:

1. INTERACTION WITH THE PROBLEM

The problem defined here is “poverty” which is the single largest and rapidly growing problem of the world. Poverty provides motivation for other societal ills and results in unrest within the society. This project deals with POVERTY ELEVATION and involves heart to heart interaction with the poor and provision of hope and livelihood for a better future.

2. BREAKING THE TABOOS

One of the biggest taboos prevalent in the illiterate segments of our society is HIV. A person inflicted by this disease may be physically or mentally tortured and is considered an insult to the family. This project “HIV awareness” aims to highlight the other side of the story by informing, discussing and understanding the causes and precautions to avoid HIV and battle this disease by breaking this taboo once and for all.

3. PROVIDING THE ALTERNATIVE

After clearing the mess, the vacuum must be filled by an alternative vision and a need to strive for the best. Knowledge is power and this project aims to empower the components of our society by enhancing the vision and opening the hearts and minds through education. “School Bag” project seeks to convert a dream to reality by ensuring that “No School Bag is left empty”.  This will be ensured by distributing books throughout the society by initiating a public book bank where people can donate books which can be given to children and schools in areas needy of such services.

4. BECOMING RESPONSIBLE

A problem which is often noticed amongst the rich and stable segments of our society is irresponsibility. Sometimes we become so obsessed with ourselves, our families and co. that we tend to ignore the environment that is the reason of our survival. The recent environmental crisis has shook the entire humankind and has resulted in a realization that we must be responsible for our actions and value that which surrounds us. The TREE PLANTATION project aims to plant a large number of trees in IIUI and inform others that a few moments spent in planting a sapling can ensure a healthy future for the next generation.
